Going Beyond: an invitation to my intersection

  • Waking Giants AUSTIN, TX UNITED STATES (map)

Being in community, showing up for others. These are skills that are learned, taught, modeled; rarely are they innate, instinctive, or natural. Especially for people who were raised far away from real, nurturing communities based on care taking and acceptance.

At Waking Giants we offer an event “Going Beyond: an invitation to my intersection” where individuals who are members of marginalized and commonly targeted communities share with us their take on their experience, what they want in community, and how they want to be cared for.

Anti-semitic crimes are on the rise in the US and there have been three in Austin in the last two weeks. In our increasingly polarized world, we need to know how to show up for each other in ways that are meaningful + impactful to those who have been harmed.

On Tuesday, November 9th, Waking Giants' CEO, Sera Bonds, will facilitate a conversation from her perspective of being a Jew in Texas. The goal of this event is:

1) For Jews who join the session to share what it feels like to them to live in the modern world as members of a group that is often targeted with violence;

2) For people who are not Jews to hear about the experience of people who are Jews living through recent anti-semitic events; and

3) For all of us to consider how to truly show up for people who are scared in the ways that matter most to the people in need of protection.

The session will be recorded and shared with those who can't make the session via email along with any resources that are mentioned during the session.

A portion of the ticket sales, in keeping with our mutual aid and reparations model, will be gifted to support families harmed by Semitic crimes.
